Dorothy Lampl -
Born in Oklahoma, Dorothy has been drawn
to the arts from a very young age. She would say that she has been
painting all her life. Actually she did her first oil painting at
the age of 10 and has never looked back. She knew at that moment
that she was an artist.
She has studied with many highly regarded teachers but the greatest
inspiration came from Richard Goetz, Henry Henschee and Russian
artist, Sergei Bongart. All three painters taught her to paint from
life. Her style is painterly realism. Dorothy conveys an intimacy in
her paintings with the random display of the objects she selects to
paint. She is drawn by the light that creates the mood for each
painting. She would say that she is a painter of light regardless of
what the light happens to be falling on.
Dorothy is a painter working in oil, pastel and watercolor. She is
most intrigued by still life, but occasionally paints figures and
landscape. Historically, still life is the "teaching medium", as the
student is challenged by shape, depth, light, and conveying
different textures to a subject that they can control the
atmosphere. It is a challenging subject and a constant fascination
for Dorothy.
After having raised a family, Dorothy lives today out in the country
of New Mexico with a collection of cats. She is a disciplined
painter and works in her studio every day. "I think it takes that
constant commitment for me to improve as a painter, and I'm always
striving to improve...to be a better painter, not just make a better
painting."
